LUCID
INT. DINING ROOM
Fade In:
SCENE 1
[THIS SCENE STARTS WITH A WOMAN QUARRELING HIS SON WHILE BREAKING PLATES ON THE DINING TABLE. THE YOUNGEST SON SITTING ON THE STAIRCASE WITH HIS EARS COVERED BY HIS HANDS WHILE CRYING.
THE SHOT BEGINS WITH AN EXTREME CLOSE UP ON JAKE'S FACE, WHICH CONVEYS THE SADNESS HE IS FEELING].
Voice over (Jake): I don't fit here anymore. I am tired of these people fighting. Mom doesn't love us
anymore. What did we do to her? What did I do?
CUT TO:
THE SHOT MOVES AWAY FROM JAKE AS IT GOES DOWN TO THE DINING ROOM
WHERE HIS MOM AND BROTHER ARE STILL ARGUING.
Vince
What do I have to do with all of it, huh? Why is it always my fault? Why?
Mom
Yes, it is your fault. Don't you think I have problems of my own? You have a roof on your head already, for Christ's sake, Vince.
Vince
Really? A roof, Mom? This crappy house you call a roof? Barely anything to eat, same soup every day, every night. I don't believe that it's my fault you spend your day just drinking in your bad moods always. Instead, it would help if you were getting a job, like every other RESPONSIBLE MOM on this planet. Aaaaaaaaaaarg!
CUT TO:
Mom
Hahaha, every other mom, too bad you're stuck with me, and you will deal with that. And don't you ever compare me with any other mom because, for starters, none of them have a single clue of any of the things I have gone through. Besides, you're only 16. What do you know about parenting? Tell me, what, huh? Don't you sit here and lecture me.
Vince
Yes, I know. I have been a better parent to Jake than you have been. It's even worse that he will have to grow up in this hellhole like I have and am not lecturing you. I am telling you the truth. We deserve, Jake deserves a proper upbringing. For once in your life, mom,do something. If not for us, do it for Jake. He doesn't deserve it, and you are not fair to him. He's only a child. All you care about is yourself and your drinking problem.
CUT TO:
SCENE 2
{JAKE STORMS IN AND INTERRUPTS THE MOTHER WHILE SCREAMING. HE STEPS ON THE BROKEN PIECES OF GLASS ON THE FLOOR AND GETS HURT, STARTS TO BLEED. VINCE RUNS TOWARDS THE CLOSET TO GET THE FIRST AID KIT AS THEIR MOTHER RUNS TOWARDS THE INFURIATED JAKE}.
Mom: I don't care what you think. You are just another disturbed teenager (Jake interrupts).
Jake: Stoooooooooooop Fighting!!!! (Screaming from the top of his voice with tears trickling down his cheeks, advancing more into the Dining room), why are you people always fighting?
Mom: Not now, baby. Please go back to your room. (Says, without both her and Vince turning to look at Jake)
Jake: Ouch! Mom! Blood. (wailing in pain)
Vince
Blood! (he says as he runs towards the kitchen closet to get the first Aid.)
Mom
Baby! (carries jake, places him on the dining chair), what have I done?
Vince
That is the typical irresponsible mom I was telling you about. (shouts as he rushes to bring the first aid kit to his mom), calm down buddy, sorry. (Tries to calm his baby brother down)
(Cleaning the fresh wound)
Mom
Ummh, Jake honey, I'm going to put some disinfectant on your wound. It's going to sting a little bit. Okay, baby?
(Jake Nodes thrice)

FADE IN:
THE SHOT FOLLOWS VINCE INTO THE LIVING ROOM JUST NEXT TO THE DINING HALL WHEN HE'S ATTENTION IS BROUGHT UP TO SPEED BY AN ADVERTISEMENT ON THE TELEVISION, WHILE HIS MOTHER ATTENDS TO JAKE.
Superimposed text on screen (spoken woman's voice commentating at the same time):
Woman’s voice
One in 10 people in the world has a mental disorder. Depression is the most common. Around 150,000 to 200,000 people are diagnosed with depression each year. Common signs of depression include social withdrawal, drops in concentration and performance, irritability, engaging in risky behavior, and increased alcohol and drug usage. If you are experiencing symptoms of depression or you suspect a loved one may be suffering from depression, it is important to seek help from a GP or mental health professional.
SHOT MOVES BACK TO THE DINING ROOM AS MOM FINISHES UP BANDAGING JAKES TOE.
Jake
I wouldn't say I like it when you two fight. It makes me sad, and I have nightmares every day. Why can't you guys be friends so we can all be happy, mom?
Mom
Your brother is just a piece of work baby; he and mommy are just on the wrong page baby.
Jake
Teacher Morten says fighting is wrong (he explains while playing with his fingers, fully recovered from his earlier agony of pain.) It's for bad people. And if you write something on the
wrong page, you, you... (fumbling) you open a new page and start over.
CUT TO:
(Jakes mother seems still bothered and confused while trying to understand Jake)
Mom
Okay.
Superimposed text on screen (spoken woman's voice commentating at the same time):
After long and credible research has been table recently on the latest discovery, giving families a new chance, those who have a mental illness—specifically, PTSD, depression or any other memory-related traumas. Medically induced amnesia helps clear the bad memories and gives you a clean slate to start over and bring on new memories.
Vince
Mom, maybe we should get that new page Jake is talking about. Because clearly, your recent acts indicate you're suffering from depression and so am I because of your state. You've barely been a mother to me ever since dad left. You keep blaming me. I'm I the reason why he left? Look, mom, I've seen an advert about depression. There is a way, a treatment of whipping my memories so that we can have a new start for all of us and I think I'm going to see it through because these are not the memories I want of my mother.
Mom
What are you talking about? Vince, come on, I'm done picking up fights with you. I'm done. What treatment, you can't do that. I forbid to do that...
Vince interrupts
Vince
You don't get it. You have no idea, what you are doing to me, or Jake. Do you? And mom, I'm 16, you can't stop me, you should try it too. (Starts to walk out) I am heading there now.
(The mother realizes she's losing this war; she contemplates considering the option)
Mom
Vince! Wait! Wait! Please tell me more about this medical treatment, please, Vince?
VINCE, EMOTIONALLY EXPLAINS ALL HE HAD SEEN ON THE TELEVISION AND SAYS THE PROFESSIONAL DOCTORS WOULD EXPLAIN MORE. HIS MOM FALLS IN DEEP THOUGHTS LOOKING DOWN WHILE GAZING AT HER SON, JAKE, WHO HAS FALLEN ASLEEP ON HER LAP. AFTER A WHILE OF THINKING SHE FINALLY AGREES TO DO IT.
Mom
I will do it, (says as tears fall down her cheeks).
Vince
Its okay, mom
(Vince moves over and hugs his mom)
THE SCENE ENDS AFTER VINCE, HER MOTHER AND YOUNGER BROTHER ENTER A HOSPITAL AND COMES OUT LATER BOTH OF THEM HOLDING HANDS. THE CAMERA ZOOMS TO FOCUS ON SMILES ON THEIR FACES AND THE GRIP OF THEIR HANDS AND THE CAMERA THEN PANS UPWARDS TO DISPLAY AN OVERHEAD SHOT OF THE CLOUDS ABOVE, WHICH DISPLAYS A FEELING OF HOPE.
